Kal Ho Na Ho is the directorial debut of Nikhil Advani. The trailer of Kal Ho Na Ho developed enormous interest in the audience. A promo is made to influence the audience. It also increases the visibility of the film. All the major satellite channels of India which includes different channels of Star, Sony, Channel V, ETC, MTV India, B4U showed the trailer of the film. The promo of Kal Ho Na Ho features three well known actors namely Shah Rukh Khan, Priety Zinta and Saif Ali Khan. Shah Rukh Khan is the most popular actor of the Indian Film Industry. He is known as King Khan of Bollywood. Any film which has Shah Rukh Khan in it generates immense interest among audience. Priety Zinta is also an established actress of the Hindi Film Industry. Saif Ali Khan also has a dedicated fan following. The film also included veteran actress like Jaya Bachchan. The supporting cast of the film is also very impressive. It included Reema Lagoo, Sushma Seth, Lillete Dubey, Satish Shah, Shoma Anand, Ketki Dave and many others. Sonali Bendre made a special appearance. She played the role of Shah Rukh's doctor.

The preview of Kal Ho Na Ho featured songs of the film which became every popular and thus contributed to create interest among the movie goers.The first song of Kal Ho Na Ho shown in the promo was the title track from the film. It shows Shah Rukh Khan singing the title track on a bridge in London. Pretty Woman is another popular track which was aired prior to the release of the film.
The story of Kal Ho Na Ho starts with Priety Zinta (naina Catherine Kapur). She is a young woman but is very upset about her surroundings. Her disgust is revealed through her angry nature. She lives with her mother played by Jaya Bachchan. Her grand mother, Lajjo, (Sushma Seth) and her two kid siblings lived together. But everyone in the family is very unhappy. Naina's father has committed suicide and her grandmother blames her mother for the mishap. Moreover, Lajjo is also not ready to accept Gia, a six year old kid, whom Naina's mother has adopted. At this point of time Aman Mathur (Shah Rukh Khan) arrives in the neighborhood and how he helps Naina to overcome her problems forms the story. Saif also plays a vital role. He played the character of Rohit, Naina's classmate in MBA course.
