Saathiya

Saathiya is a Hollywood romantic movie, which was released on December 2002. The film stars actors and actresses like Rani Mukherji, Vivek Oberoi and Tanuja. This is the debut film of Shaad Ali as a director. The film was a remake of the Tamil movie, Alaipayuthey directed by Mani Ratnam. The music of Saathiya was composed by A.R. Rahman. The whole film presents a constant push and pull between past and the present. Many parts of the films are told by Aditya Sehgal or Vivek Oberoi. On an evening, Aditya Sehgal returns home and starts waiting for his wife, Suhani, who happens to be a trainee doctor.

He keeps waiting but his wife does not returns. In anticipation of some misfortune he rushed to his in-law's house in search of his wife but could not find his wife. Ultimately he went to the police station. As the film unfolds we find Aditya searching for his wife in the station. He is searching the train that Suhani use to take on her way back to home. Saathiya is mainly in the form of a recollections of Aditya to his mother-in-law about how they met, how they secretly got married, got separated from their family because of their secret marriage and finally their blissful marital life. Ultimately he discovered his wife in a hospital who has undergone a tremendous road accident and finally they are united again. The young couple-Rani and Vivel Oberoi engrossed the attention of audience. The youngsters identify themselves wholly to these two. The way they secretly got married and later walked out of their family involved and inspired young and old couples alike. The music of A.R. Rehman as usual magnetising. The music smoothly flows over the entire film and is perfectly at par with the mood and tone of the different situations of the movie.

Saathiya was well received by critics. The realism of the film and A.R Rehman's music were considered the highlights of the film. It came second in the box office in its opening weekend. However in the weeks ahead it showed stronger legs and ended up being the highest grosser that december. The trailers of the film is particularly concentrated on the two-Rani Mukherji and Vivek Oberoi. The intimate relation of the two is displayed on a dreamy yellow background that instantly tranforms you to a different romantic island. The film won 6 awards in the Filmfare awards of the year 2003.

Shahrukh Khan and Tabu appear in a special cameos in the film. The songs of Saathiya are considered as all time hits. The songs feature strongly in the trailers of Saathiya. The songs are of a variety of type and ranges from traditional Indian to peppy numbers. It has a special appeal to everybody irrespective of age and class. The songs exhibits the kind of magnetisation as can be expected from A.R. Rehman's music.
